Mama Cecile is one of the most fearless, outspoken and influential change makers in the refugee community. Not only does Mama Cecile represent the Congolese population of Dzaleka refugee camp, she is also the founder of Women for Action. They make eco-briquettes that replace charcoal as cooking fuel in a community where population keeps soaring, and electricity or gas is unavailable. Their briquette quality and production capacity have won them customers such as Plan International Malawi and UNHCR Malawi

Currently, the entire production process is hand-powered by five women and two men. A resistance from the community to move away from the charcoal they have always used is limiting the great employment and environmental potential of this project.

Briquettes are available to buy from Women for Action
